After seeing the dead body, he fled from the spot with the car.

He was fully aware of the incident but he was deliberately driving on the streets of Delhi and when the dead body of the girl fell down, the accused fled from the spot. Delhi Police is now mixing the statements of the accused and the evidence found, after which it will be clear in the investigation whether the accused are telling the truth or the story is something else.
